THP Joins Nation in Observing the Anniversary of 9-11, Retama Plans Special Tribute Sept. 13

The Texas Horsemen's Partnership joins the rest of the nation in observing the one-year anniversary of the tragic attacks on our country.

The horse racing community has been among the most supportive of the families of victims in the terrorist attacks. Through the fund established by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), our industry has raised over $12 million dollars to aid those families in need.

Retama Park will pay tribute to the firemen, policemen and military personnel of San Antonio with a special Military/Special Services Appreciation Night on Friday, September 13. All Military personnel, firemen, and policemen will receive free admission to the park. Free grandstand box seating will also be available to those who make reservations in advance. Six races on the card will be conducted in honor of the four military bases located in San Antonio, the firemen and the policemen of the city. Representatives from these entities will be presenting trophies to the winning connections.

To honor those who displayed such courage during the tragic events of 9-11, Retama Park will host the Twin Towers Memorial Race, with members of the Texas Task Force, a special team of firemen who traveled to New York last year to help in recovery efforts, presenting the trophy. In addition, Randolph Air Force Base's esteemed Honor Guard will parade on the track as part of the tribute.
