Lone Stars & Stripes Celebration Doubleheader Draws 42,759

The two days of the 12th Annual Lone Stars & Stripes Celebration on Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4 attracted 42,759 fans to the Grand Prairie racetrack for live racing and post-race fireworks.

The two-day total was a four-percent increase of 1,672 fans from 41,087 total in 2007.

The Friday, July 4 attendance of 26,774 was the largest at Lone Star Park since 53,717 attended the 2004 Breeders' Cup World Championships and the highest Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks single-day attendance since July 3, 2002 when 28,123 fans watched the Independence Day festivities.

"We were extremely pleased with the large turnout at Lone Star Park for the two-night celebration," said Lone Star Park President and General Manager Drew Shubeck. "When you take into consideration the fans that attended the two Grand Prairie Air Hogs baseball games, the people at the Nokia Theatre concert on Thursday, plus those who watched from the parking lot and surrounding area, it's fair to say that more than 50,000 people enjoyed our fireworks.

"We'd like to thank the City of Grand Prairie for their participation in our Lone Stars & Stripes Celebration, as well as the Grand Prairie Police Department, the Air Hogs and Nokia Theatre for their cooperation in making the Grand Prairie Entertainment District the place to be for the Fourth of July."
