$1 Million Texas Classic Futurity Tops $2.55 Million Fall Meeting of Champions Stakes Schedule at LSP

Lone Star Park’s 2008 Fall Meeting of Champions for American Quarter Horses will be highlighted by the 16th running of the $1 million- estimated, Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity on Saturday, November 29.

A total of 27 stakes worth an estimated $2.55 million including five Grade 1 races will be run over 31 nights from Friday, September 26 to Saturday, November 29, 2008. Other Grade 1 stakes during the meet will be the $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap on Saturday, October 4; both the $475,000-estimated Dash for Cash Futurity and $200,000-estimated Dash for Cash Derby on Saturday, October 25; and the $400,000-estimated Texas Classic Derby on Saturday, November 29, the same day as the Texas Classic Futurity.

After the opening weekend of the 2008 Fall Meeting of Champions on Friday and Saturday, September 26-27, racing will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday, November 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to Thanksgiving. First post time for all dates will be 6:35 p.m.

Lone Star Park’s premier Grade 1 races for two- and three-year-olds will be run on the same night, Saturday, November 29. The Texas Classic Futurity – annually the state’s richest horse race – and $400,000-estimated Texas Classic Derby are scheduled for the closing night program.

On Saturday, October 25, Lone Star Park will host the $475,000-estimated Dash For Cash Futurity and $200,000-estimated Dash For Cash Derby.

The 10 fastest times in trial races will determine the fields for the lucrative Dash For Cash and Texas Classic finals. Trials for the Dash For Cash Derby are set for Friday, October 10 while the Dash for Cash Futurity trials are scheduled for the next night, Saturday, October 11. The Texas Classic trials will be held on Friday, November 14 for the Derby and Saturday, November 15 for the Futurity.

Another highlight of the meet is the Grade 1, $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap on Saturday, October 4. The winner of the 440-yard event for 3-year-olds and up annual receives an automatic berth to Grade 1, $1 million Champion of Champions, which is scheduled for Saturday, December 13 at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California.

In addition to Quarter Horses, there will be stakes events for Paint, Appaloosa and Arabian horses. The third running of the $55,000-estimated Lone Star Park Paint & Appaloosa Futurity is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, with trials to be held on Saturday, November 8. This year, there are also six stakes events for Arabians.

Another popular fixture at the meet is the $15,000 Gridiron Gallop Handicap – the world’s shortest stakes race at 100 yards, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 8.

Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, September 26-27, racing will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday, November 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving holiday. First post time for all dates will be 6:35 p.m.
