Leatherman Named Racing Secretary at Retama Park

James Leatherman has been named racing secretary at Retama Park. He replaces Larry Craft and Mike Shamburg, who resigned as the track’s Thoroughbred and American Quarter Horse racing secretaries, respectively. Both have taken year-round posts with Magna Entertainment Corp.

Leatherman, 32, has been employed at Retama since the track opened in 1995. He has been assistant racing secretary for the past three years.

Craft will continue to serve as the director of racing and racing secretary at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a position he has held since 1997.

Retama Park’s 2005 Quarter Horse meet runs from April 29 through June 19. Nominations for the Retama Park Futurity (G1) and Retama Park Derby (G1) are due on February 15. For more information, including a stall application, visit the track’s website at www.retamapark.com.
