(Austin, Texas - Monday, December 5, 2016) - The Texas Thoroughbred Horsemen's Benevolent & Protective Association (TTHBPA), the Thoroughbred representative partner in the Texas Horsemen's Partnership, LLP (THP), has opened its 2017 Board of Directors election nomination period, with two owner and one trainer seats open. The nomination period will remain open until December 14, 2016, and nominations can be made by calling one of the members of the nomination committee. The nominating committee consists of:

Ten members in good standing can submit a potential name for consideration. Here are the details from the bylaws:

Section 6. Election of the Board of Directors.
(A) The Board of Directors shall be elected by the Association's eligible voting Members in good standing.
(B) No person shall be eligible for nomination or to serve as a Director unless:
(1) He is a currently licensed Owner, Trainer or Owner/Trainer of Thoroughbred Horses in Texas.
(2) He is a Member in good standing of the Association as defined in Article IV on the date of his nomination, and remains eligible as such, at all times thereafter.
(3) He has started at least two (2) Thoroughbred Horses at one or more licensed Racetracks in Texas, for a combined total of five (5) races in Texas while a Member of the Association, in the immediate preceding 12 months prior to the date of his nomination.
(C) No person shall be eligible to run or be put on the ballot as an Owner-only candidate unless he has raced in the Association as an Owner-only for at least six (6) months prior to being nominated.
(D) No person shall be eligible to run or be put on the ballot as a Trainer or Owner/Trainer candidate unless he has raced in the Association as a Trainer or Owner/Trainer for at least six (6) months prior to being nominated.

Ballots are tentatively scheduled to mail out during the first week of January, in which case they would be due back by the last week of January. Election results would then be available by early February.
