Retirement Ceremony Honoring AQHA World Champion Tailor Fit at SHRP on Friday

On Friday, September 5, Sam Houston Race Park will salute American Quarter Horse champion, Tailor Fit, who has been retired by trainer Janet Van Bebber. Owned by Betty Jane Burlin of Navasota, Texas, Tailor Fit is one of the most respected Quarter Horses in the nation. Purchased by Van Bebber in the 1996 PCQHRA Yearling Sale, the son of Strawfly Special out of the On A High mare, Silk Skirt, broke his maiden on July 5, 1997 at Ruidoso Downs.

Tailor Fit made 40 career starts, winning 20 races and earning $1,299,010. His stakes wins included the 1999 and 2001 Champion of Champions, the 2001 MBNA American Challenge Championship and three consecutive Remington Park Championships. He was honored as AQHA World Champion in 1999 and 2001.

He won the Sam Houston Classic in 1999 and Sooner Trailer Texas Challenge in 1998 at Sam Houston Race Park. Houston is home for Van Bebber, and Sam Houston Race Park will honor Van Bebber, Burlin and Tailor Fit in a ceremony following Friday's fifth race.
