Fate Or Luck: Horses finish in exact post position order at Retama Park

A remarkable event occurred in the second race at Retama Park Friday evening, October 19, when the order of finish was in the exact order of post positions 1 through 7. The $7,500 claiming race was won by Book of Knowledge who finished a nose ahead of Cindy's Devil in a thrilling stretch run.

When questioned, Larry Craft, the Racing Secretary at Retama Park, said he had never seen such a finish occurring in that large a field in all of his 50 years in horse racing. Whether the finish was the result of fate or luck, however, the facts remain the same. The handicapper who predicted the 1-2-3-4 superfecta was treated to a $448.60 payout off a $2 bet.

This coming weekend, October 26-27, is Retama Park's last live racing weekend and will be highlighted by the "50 cent Friday" promotion on October 26 and the $25,000 No Le Hace Stakes and the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships simulcast live from Belmont Park in New York on October 27.
