El Tiburon Ligero Upsets in the $35,100 Gen X Stakes at SHRP

Houston, Texas (November 5, 2004) - Sam Houston Race Park leading rider, Danny Lavergne added another stakes win tonight as he rode El Tiburon Ligero to victory in the $35,100 Gen X Stakes.

Owned by Alex Ramos and trained by Roy Roberts, the 5-year-old gelding drew off and captured the 550-yard stakes in a time of :27.467.

Sent off as the third betting choice in the field of six, El Tiburon Ligero paid $19.40 for the win. Snow Warning ran second and Ima Streakin Val was third.

"I tell you what, he was a son of a gun," said Lavergne. "He didn't want to look down the racetrack at all. And right at the last minute, he just pointed and I just so happened to kick him and it was all over. It wasn't even close."

Athena Raquel Scores in the $25,000 AQHA Members Plus Distaff Stakes

Athena Raquel ($6.80) owned by S A Ranch, returned to the winner's circle tonight in the $25,000 AQHA Members Plus Distaff Stakes. Jockey Rodrigo Vallejo rode the 4-year-old daughter of Mr Jess Perry to victory, covering the 400-yards in a time of :20.199.

"She did really well," said trainer Eloy Gonzalez. "She's been off a little bit. She had a bad experience here last time she ran. She was hurt for a while and then she hurt one of her front legs. But she's back. She needed the race. She's going to get better. So we're extremely proud of her. She did an excellent job.".
