First Klas Fred Returns to Defend His Title Saturday in the Classic Chevrolet Heartbeat of America Stakes at LSP

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Thursday, September 20, 2012) - Denis & Julie Schoenhofer's First Klas Fred, trained by Cindi Keeton, headlines the 15th running of the $20,000 Classic Chevrolet Heartbeat of America Stakes to be run at 350 yards, for accredited Texas-bred three-year-olds and upward, on Saturday, September 22 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie.

Previously trained by Heath Taylor, First Klas Fred has won five of 23 starts for $541,533 in earnings including the Grade 1 $500,000 Ruidoso Futurity in 2009. The gelded son of Fredricksburg, First Klas Fred has drawn post position four and will be ridden by Luis Vivanco.

No longer in the care of Taylor, First Klas Fred has moved to the barn of husband and wife training team of Toby and Cindi Keeton. They have had the gelding for about 60 days.

"He's been training really well," said trainer Toby Keeton. "I think he will run a big race, a big race."

Perhaps the biggest threat to First Klas Fred in the Classic Chevrolet Heartbeat of America Stakes is Acorn, trained by Janet Van Bebber. A winner of 12 of 23 starts for $351,227 in earnings, has improved from third to second in a pair of stakes races this year, the Miss Polly Classic (G3) at Delta Down last June, and the Garland Shelton GMC Truck Stakes (RG3) in July at Retama Park.

The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, consists of: The Field Cricket (Jerry Lee Yoakum, 8-1); Executive Prince (Rodrigo Vallejo, 5-1); Acorn (Alfonso Lujan, 9-5); First Klas Fred (Luis Vivanco, 5-2); Sunny D (Ricky Ramirez, 4-1) and Jump Down Azoom (Esgar Ramirez, 10-1).

Scheduled as race seven on the nine-race program, the Classic Chevrolet Heartbeat of America Stakes has an approximate post time of 8:59 p.m. CDT.
