Stolis Winner Looks to Become All-Time Leading Money Earner in $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap on Saturday

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Wednesday, September 29, 2010) - History can be made at Lone Star Park this Saturday night in the 14th Running of the Grade 1, $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap when Stolis Winner, winner of the 2008 All-American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs and the 2009 Texas Classic Derby at Lone Star Park, attempts to become the all-time leading money earning American Quarter Horse in history.

Stolis Winner, who has won 12 of 19 starts and earned $2,097,731 is currently only $28,578 behind all-time leader Refrigerator, who earned $2,126,309 during his career, and could move to the top of the all-time money list with the $55,000 winner’s share in the race named for the current leader and two-time world champion. Regular rider and all-time money earning jockey G. R. Carter, Jr. will ride for trainer Heath Taylor.

“He’s training well and schooled at the gate this morning exceptionally well,” said Taylor. “I’ve been coming to this race for a lot of years and this is the toughest, deepest Refrigerator Handicap from top to bottom that I’ve ever seen. This is as good an older horse race as there’s been in the country this year.

“Obviously he’ll have to run better than his last race (Sam Houston Classic) when he stumbled coming away from the gate and had a significant bump that cost him some ground and time,” added Taylor noting that all five horses that finished ahead of Stolis Winner in that race are entered in the Refrigerator Handicap. “And besides those five, there are four others in the race who are just as good.”

Among the top challengers standing in the way of history for Stolis Winner, who has been made the 5-2 morning line favorite by Lone Star Park oddsmaker Rick Lee, are Double Bar S Ranch LLC’s Jess You and I and 2009 Lone Star Park leading owner Debra Gotovac’s Swingin Daddyo.

Jess You and I is coming into the race off of two consecutive stakes wins, including the $250,000 Remington Park Invitational Championship in his last race on May 29, while Swingin Daddyo has won five of his last six, including a win in the $873,000 Rainbow Derby on July 24 and a second-place finish in the $569,000 Ruidoso QH Derby on June 12 both at Ruidoso Downs.

The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, consists of: Mon Ti Stoli (Martin Rubalcava, 20-1); Stolis Winner (G. R. Carter, Jr., 9-5); Jess You and I (Ricky Ramirez, 5-2); Charal Kid (Santos Carrizales, 20-1); Comin Thru (Rodrigo Vallejo, 12-1); Split Curl Diva (David Brown, 6-1); Point of Deception (Adalberto Candanosa, 20-1); Swingin Daddyo (Cody Wainscott, 5-1); Vodka With Ice (Jose Alvarez, 30-1); and King Brimmerton (Russel Hadley, 15-1).

The Refrigerator Handicap is Race 9 of the 10-race card and is scheduled for 9:47 p.m.
