(Saturday, October 11, 2008) - Carl C. Pevehouse’s Ima Candy Suspect, ridden by Roy Baldillez and trained by Stacy Charette-Hill, was the fastest qualifier to the Grade 1, $206,300 Dash For Cash Derby on Friday night at Lone Star Park. The Springfield Cup Derby winner at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, ran his 440-yard trial in 21.737 to top the list of 10 qualifiers for the Saturday, Oct. 25 final.

But the story of the night was the jockey-trainer combination of J.R. Carter and trainer Heath Taylor who combined to qualify five runners, one in each trial, with four winners and one second-place finish. After a second-place finish with Zazoom in the first trial, the combination swept the next four with Goodnews Gran, Swingin Jess, Captain Courage, and Perry Tee Chick.

Ima Candy Suspect set the fastest time in winning the first of the five trial races for three-year-old American Quarter Horses.

The other nine finalists (in order with time, jockey and trainer in parenthesis) for the Dash For Cash Derby are: Zazoom (21.750, G.R. Carter, Heath Taylor), Jess Flashy (21.784, Salvador Perez, Carlos Terrazas), Panther Purr (21.815, Rodrigo Vallejo, Abel Flores, Jr.), Goodnews Gran (21.840, J.R. Carter, Heath Taylor), Swingin Jess (21.961, J.R. Carter, Heath Taylor), Captain Courage (21.974, J.R. Carter, Heath Taylor), Heza Smooth Gambler (22.044, Roy Brooks, Luis Villafranco), Perry Tee Chick (22.070, J.R. Carter, Heath Taylor), and Poise N Pepper (22.072, Russel Hadley, John Buchanan).

Classic Chevrolet Heartbeat of America runner up at Lone Star Park on Sept. 26, Eyesa Sam missed qualifying by one-one thousandth of a second with a time of 22.073.

Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, racing will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
