Rattle N Battle Gets the Prize in Grade 1, $385,110 Dash For Cash Futurity Saturday at Lone Star Park

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Saturday, October 11, 2014) - What an exciting night it was for American Quarter Horse racing at Lone Star Park. Three stakes were contested - two of them graded - with combined prize money of over $602,000 awarded.

The featured ninth race was the 17th running of the Grade 1, $385,110 Dash for Cash Futurity. When the gates opened, it was Rattle N Battle, by Apolitical Jess out of Tinys Corona Queen, by Corona Cartel, breaking from post position nine and going straight to the lead. With Joe Badilla, Jr. in the irons, the two-year-old colt held on to win by a half-length over runner up Jess Walking Thru.

The 400-yard futurity was clocked in :19.576 seconds for a speed index of 95.

Trained by Brandon Muniz for owner Sunset Well Service, Inc., Rattle N Battle returned $11.60, $5.20 and $3.40 for those that wagered. Jess Walking Thru returned $18.80 and $10.60 for place, and Separate Dynasty returned $3.80 for the show. Great Grace, Jess Toast Winner, Corona Wind, Rare Legs, Corona Kelly, and Absolut Power completed the order of finish. Good Seis was scratched from the race.

With the $154,049 winner's share of the purse, Rattle N Battle upped his earnings to $175,003. His stats now read 8-2-2-1.

Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame and American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame trainer Charles W. "Bubba" Cascio, trainer of the late great Dash for Cash, was on hand to present trophy's to the winning connections of all three Dash for Cash stakes tonight.

Favorite Her O Don Won Again the Runner-Up as Dash For Cash Derby Goes to Dashin for a Prize

Dashin for a Prize got the win in tonight's 17th running of the Grade 2, $174,400 Dash for Cash Derby. Ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo, the gelding by Heza Fast Dash out of Fast Prize Angie, by Oak Tree Special was placed towards the back of the field at the start, where he remained past the halfway point. With a super burst of speed, Dashin for a Prize was able to get the lead and win by a half-length over favorite Her O Don Won.

If ever a horse had bad luck, Her O Don Won is the horse. Bumped from both sides out of the gate, he was able to recover and get the lead briefly but couldn't hold off the fast closing winner.

Final time for the 440-yard Derby was :21.315 on a good track for a speed index of 96.

Mutuel payoffs were $13.40, $7.80 and $4.80. Her O Don Won paid $2.80 and $2.60 for place and Mr Jo Eagle paid $8.00 for show. Chief Coronas Charm, Echoes of Love, Bp Wagon Train, Cartini, This Candys Awesome, and Cartels Hercules completed the order of finish. Zooming for First was a late scratch.

Trained by Eric Palacio, Dashin for a Prize improved his record to 12-3-4-1 and increased his earnings to $93,542 for owner Oscar Moreno.

Tf Cajun Cartel Wins Dash For Cash Juvenile Stakes

Ascencion Fernandez, Jr.'s Tf Cajun Cartel broke alertly and took an early lead in the Dash for Cash Juvenile Stakes tonight, holding off a fast closing Play Harder for the win.

Trained by Fernando Carrete, the colt by Corona Cartel out of Dashadee, by Mr Jess Perry completed the 400 yards in :19.647 over a surface listed as good, earning a speed index of 93.

Mutuels returned $7.60, $4.20 and $3.20. Post time favorite Play Harder returned $3.60 and $2.80 for place, and Gbh Dashin Paige returned $5.60 for the show. Specially Menacing, Madmax, Seisy Lady, Mighty Corona Jr, and Victoria Camila completed the order of finish. There were two late scratches from the race. They were Face This Runner and Flashy First Cartel.

With the winner's share of the purse, Tf Cajun Cartel has upped his career earnings to $38,158 from five starts, three wins, and one third.

Additional notes: Through the end of week four, jockeys Luis Vivanco and Damien Martinez share the top spot with 13 wins apiece. Santos Carrizales is right on their heels with 12 wins. Brian Stroud is ahead of Toby Keeton in the trainer standings seven wins to six, and owner Bobby D. Cox is holding steady with three wins.
