119 Two-Year-Olds Set to Run Saturday for a Place in the Gate in the Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Friday, October 21, 2016) - The Grade 1, $1 million estimated Texas Classic Futurity, the richest race in the state and the premier race of the meeting at Lone Star Park, is scheduled for closing night, Saturday, November 12. And a chance at one of 10 finalists that will compete has attracted 119 two-year-old hopefuls. They have been divided into 12 trial races Saturday, October 22. The fastest 10 will race for a piece of the $1 million purse closing night.

There are some outstanding youngsters in the mix including the Grade 1, $3 million All-American Futurity runner-up, The Marfa Lights. The colt by One Famous Eagle was a neck shy of the win on Labor Day in Ruidoso. He has drawn into the first trial Saturday. The Marfa Lights has recorded two wins and one second from four starts, bankrolling $454,960. He is owned by Beth & Michael Harper and trained by Jim Helzer. Jockey Larry Payne has the assignment.

In trial race 11 is another standout, Bobby Cox & Homero & Kristen Ashley Paredes' Duponte. The son of American Runaway was runner up in the Dash for Cash Futurity here October 8 and won the Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park last June. Duponte has amassed $646,754 from a career record of 7-3-2-0. He is conditioned by Josue Ponce and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez.
