(Thursday, October 30, 2008) - Sam A. Vasquez’s Golly Bret, trained by Elizabeth Brand, has been made the 1-2 morning line favorite by track odds maker Rick Lee in the Second Running of the six-furlong, $9,000 added Cassels Bruczest Arabian Stakes for Texas-accredited Arabian three-year-olds on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Lone Star Park.

With jockey Christopher Conway up, Golly Bret will try to improve his career record to five wins in six tries and stretch his current winning streak to four in a row. The three-year-old colt finished second in his only defeat.

Golly Bret’s chief competition should come from Claudia and Daniel Spears DC West Wing, who is looking to break his maiden following second-place finishes in each of his first three career starts. Trained by Jerenesto Torrez, the three-year-old colt will have jockey Richard Vasquez in the irons.

Both of the top contenders in the field of six have broken on the lead in all of their races and should start their duel right out of the gate.

The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, consists of: Monarkos CS (Rita Helton, 12-1), Golly Bret (Christopher Conway, 1-2), DC West Wing (Richard Vasquez, 4-1), WMA Rushing Wind (Cody Wainscott, 20-1), Aarons Destiny (Tad Leggett, 8-1) and NC Galloping Gus (Santos Carrizales, 8-1).

Scheduled as race four on the 11-race program, the Cassels Bruczest Arabian Stakes has a scheduled post time of 7:47 p.m.

Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, racing will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
