Stakes Doubleheader Highlights Dollar Day on Saturday at LSP

(Thurssday, November 6, 2008) - Two stakes – the $30,000 B.F. Phillips, Jr. and $15,000 Gridiron Gallop Handicaps – highlight the 11-race card to be run on Dollar Day at Lone Star Park on Saturday when racing fans can enjoy general admission, general parking, programs, hot dogs, popcorn, soft drinks, hot chocolate and beer for only one dollar each. First post is 6:35 p.m.

Bridled Lightnin, owned by Warner Croft and trained by Bobby Moore Jr., and Killer Bod, owned and trained by Don Poteet, headline a field of five in the 10th running of the 400-yard, $30,000 B.F. Phillips, Jr. Handicap, a restricted Grade 3 event for Texas-accredited three-year-olds and upward.

A winner of six of 21 career starts for $165,232, Bridled Lightnin was last seen finishing fourth in the $20,000 Kool Kue Baby stakes at Lone Star Park on Oct. 10. Killer Bod, a winner of seven of 12 career starts, was a hard luck seventh in his most recent race in the 6666 Handicap at the Grand Praire track on Oct. 24.

The field from the rail out, with jockey, weight and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, consists of: Vodka With Ice (Zacharie Shane Kelsey, 123, 3-1), Streakin Illusively (Rodrigo Vallejo, 122, 5-1), Heza Two Timing Man (Dewey Smith, 122, 6-1), Bridled Lightnin (Luis Ramirez, 125, 8-5), and Killer Bod (David Alvarez, 123, 2-1).

In the Gridiron Gallop Handicap for three-year-olds and up, 2007 winner Check On Chico, owned by Julie Irwin Cotton and trained by Judd Kearl, has been made the 3-1 morning line favorite to repeat his 100-yard dash victory. The very competitive field also includes Xo Kate, the Roberto Madrigal-conditioned co-highweight at 124 pounds, A L Company’s Easy Separation, who has hit the board in his last six starts and Anna Pavlova, who will be ridden by Lone Star Park’s leading jockey Ricky Ramirez.

Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, racing will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
