|Easy Dashin Sixes is Leading Qualifier for $384,000 Texas Classic Derby on Nov. 29
(Friday, November 14, 2008) - Easy Dashin Sixes, owned by
Oscar Cantu Ramirez and trained by Eusevio Huitron, was the fastest
qualifier in the trials for the Grade 1, $383,750 Texas Classic
Derby held Friday night at Lone Star Park. Ridden by Julian Cantu,
the winner of both the Retama Park and Sam Houston Derbies and runner-up
in the Refrigerator Handicap here on Oct. 4, ran his 440-yard trial
in 21.038 earning a speed index of 108 to top the list of 10 qualifiers
for the Nov. 29 final.
Trainer Heath Taylor qualified four of the 10 finalists, including
two with jockey Gilbert Ortiz, the only rider with more than one.
Taylor’s Coronas Leaving You, Separatist Baby, Rebas in the
House and Coronas Easy Dash will return to compete for the top prize
of $170,772 on Nov. 29.

Deschamp, Heath Taylor), Romancing Mary (21.481, John Mayers, J.R.
Ramirez, Paul Ramirez), Rebas in the House (21.553, Michael Dale
Taylor, Gilbert Ortiz, Heath Taylor), Moonshine Memories (21.568,
Jerry V. Whittle, Gaspar Garcia, Dwayne Gilbreath), Rock Solid Jess
(21.604, Jack Manning, Tad Leggett, Michael Wakefield), and Coronas
Easy Dash (21.605, Keilani Farms LLC, Gilbert Ortiz, Heath Taylor),
Taylor’s Fast Prize Doll and Red Storm Cat ran the 11th and
12th best times, respectively, during the four Derby trials. Fast
Prize Doll’s time of 21.629 missed qualifying by 0.024 of
Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting
of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After
the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, racing
will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each
Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday,
Nov. 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving
