(Saturday, May 16, 2009) - Sam Houston Race Park hosted an exciting day of racing, including a simulcast of the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes from Pimlico, 12 live Quarter Horse races, and the $19,000 LaVillita Stakes on Saturday, May 16. Taking top honors in The Park’s stakes race was Executive Looks (5-2), a three-year-old filly who finished second in the Live Oaks Stakes on Saturday, May 2.

“She got a pretty good break, but flew a little late and had a driving finish,” commented jockey Jose Alvarez. “I’m really proud of her. She came back after finishing second in the Live Oaks and showed she’s a top filly.”

Executive Looks finished the 330-yard race in a time of :16.915. Trained by Joe Bryan Rangel and owned by Rogelio Rangel, the filly paid her betting fans $4.80. Senorita Seis (9-2) finished second, with Intergalactica (10-1) checking in third. They were followed under the wire by Zimalue, Million Maid, Forspeed Breezer, Mighty Shazoom, and Takenback.

In addition to Saturday’s live racing event, the FREE Value Day Fun Zone area featured Bark’s 5th Avenue and the Disc-functional frisbee dog team, giant bounce houses for kids, hot food off the grill, Beers of the World and more! Following the afternoon’s events was a performance by the Scooter Brown Band, Ryan Beaver and Jason Aldean as part of the 2009 Verizon Wireless Concert Series on the Bud Light Stage.
