Mr Jess Perrier Tops List of Qualifiers for the $58,410 Bayer Legend Texas Derby Challenge at SHRP

(Saturday, June 27, 2009) - The trials for the $58,410 Bayer Legend Texas Derby Challenge were held on Saturday, June 27. Mr Jess Perrier was the fastest qualifier among the three-year-olds and up going 400 yards, taking his trial in :19.767. Trained and co-owned (with Tommy Hays and Joe Gutierrez) by Robert J. "Bobby" Touchet, the three-year-old sorrel gelded son of Holland Ease and the Mr Jess Perry mare Perrier Jouet went off as the $5.40-to-1 third choice and got up to beat heavy favorite Jodys Money Pop by a neck. He was ridden to victory by David A. Alvarez.

Trainer Dwayne C. Gilbreath saddled four of the 10 qualifiers: Jodys Money Pop, ICU Can Zoom, Shadaisy 123, and Shesa Lady 123.

Diamond Tres Seis Tops List of Qualifiers for $107,500 Bank of America Texas Challenge Championship at SHRP

The trials for the $107,550 Bank of America Texas Challenge Championship were held on Saturday, June 27. Diamond Tres Seis justified his favoritism in his trial, rallying to beat Jess My Moon by a nose in :21.529 to become the fastest qualifier for the finals among three-year-olds and up going 440 yards. Owned by Mercy and Ray Hinklin and trained by Heath M. Taylor, the five-year-old sorrel gelded son of Tres Seis and the Dahs For Cash mare Meddlin Mischief went off as the $2.20-to-1 favorite in his trial. He was ridden to victory by Gilbert Ortiz.
