Comin Thru and Charal Kid Top Two Divisions of Silestone Stakes at SHRP

(Houston, Texas - Saturday, July 3, 2010) - Sam Houston Race Park hosted an All-American Independence Day Celebration featuring two divisions of the $20,000+ Silestone Stakes on the live race card on Saturday, July 3rd, both of which were 350-yard races for Texas-bred horses three years of age and up. The Silestone Stakes races were the eighth and tenth races of the night.

In the eighth race, jockey Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo guided the morning line favorite Comin Thru to victory in a time of :17.58. The four-year-old gelding, trained by Judd S. Kearl, notched his second straight win at Sam Houston Race Park and fifth win overall.

“He was bumped a little from behind but did a good job recovering and charged ahead for the win,” commented Vallejo. “He’s a stellar horse, and I’m glad Judd has given me the opportunity to ride him.”

Comin Thru peaked at an incredible speed index of 102. Comin Thru is owned by Mickey Tiner and was bred in Texas by Michael Pohl.

The seven-horse field featured Naruto in second place and A Clever Dash in third. They were followed past the post by Lightning Round, Brindis Por Cayenne, Dashing O Toole and Glorys Patriot.

The second division of the Silestone Stakes, the tenth race, featured seven horses running a distance of 350 yards. The morning line favorite once again proved best as Charal Kid, ridden by jockey Jose Amador Alvarez and trained by Erika Huitron, blazed through the 350 yards in a time of :17.56. The four-year-old gelding was coming off a recent win in the $40,000 Miss Polly Classic Grade III at Delta Downs in June.

“I have nothing but great things to say about this horse,” commented Huitron. “This marks his sixth win here at Sam Houston in only eight starts, so we’re very pleased with what he’s done here.”

Charal Kid, owned by Malinche Cattle Co. Inc., topped the speed index at 102. Both Comin Thru and Charal Kid were sired in Texas by Strawfly Special.

The remainder of the field featured Rapidton in second and Chasing The Cheese in third. They were followed under the wire by Own The Waterfront, Cougar Hendricks, Dashin Tres and Sought After.
