Selma, Texas (August 13,2005) - A R Crackers got up in the last jump to run down heavily favored Waupaca in the $50,000 Retama Park Turf Breeder’s Cup Saturday night at Retama Park.

South Africa broke from the one post and, as expected, set the pace. However, Waupaca’s rider, M. C. Berry, decided to send his charge to the lead going into the first turn, and the decision was a fateful one.

Waupaca did bury South Africa, but he was tiring in deep stretch and could not hold off the late charge of A R Crackers under a furious ride by Omar Rodriguez.

"I was yelling at my horse all the way down the stretch, and he finally kicked in the last eighth," said Rodriguez.

A R Crackers paid a handsome $20.60 win mutual and a $48.00 exacta. Time for the 1 1/16 miles was a good 1:45.

With the victory, A R Crackers ran his unbeaten record on the Retama Park turf course to three for three.
