Foundation Class to be Honored Saturday in New Lone Star Park Hall of Fame

(April 20, 2007) - In conjunction with a yearlong celebration of its 10th anniversary of live horse racing, Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie will salute and recognize a foundation class of 14 inductees into the new Lone Star Park Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The Lone Star Park Hall of Fame inductees are horses Anet, Kool Kue Baby and Mocha Express; jockey Ronald Ardoin; trainers Steve Asmussen, Jack Brooks and Bob Baffert; owner Tom Durant; dignitaries the Trammell Crow Family, Grand Prairie Mayor Charles England, Corey S. Johnsen, Jim & Marilyn Helzer and Robert L. Kaminski; and horseplayer J.S. "Ponti" Campagna.

A pre-race ceremony to unveil each honoree's name with permanent enshrinement in the Lone Star Park Saddling Paddock will take place at 12:55 p.m. CT. Track announcer John Lies will emcee the brief ceremony (complete with a balloon release), with Lone Star Park President and General Manager Drew Shubeck also scheduled to speak.

Between races throughout Saturday's 11-race program, each inductee will be saluted. Also, all customers with a paid general admission will receive a free commemorative Lone Star Park Hall of Fame t-shirt while supplies last.

Grandstand gates open at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and the first live race is 1:35 p.m. CT. Between live races, Petty Theft - a Tom Petty tribute band led by veteran sports talk show host Mike Rhyner of "Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket" - will perform in the Courtyard of Champions from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Also, Lone Star Park will host its first Fish Fry in the Courtyard, featuring fried catfish, fries and coleslaw for $6.

Annie Savoy Meets Sweet Idea Again in Saturday's JEH Stallion Stakes

Three-time stakes winner Annie Savoy heads a field of six Texas-bred fillies and mares for Saturday's $50,000 JEH Stallion Station Stakes - the feature race on Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie's inaugural Hall of Fame Day.

Owned and bred by Hal Browning of Dallas, Annie Savoy rallied up the inside rail to win last month's $45,000 Mission Stakes at Sam Houston by one length over Olmosta, whom she'll meet again Saturday. The victory made the 4-year-old daughter of Langfuhr a stakes winner at age 2, 3 and 4 for trainer Kari Craddock. Overall, it was Annie Savoy's fifth win in 13 starts and brought her earnings to $130,880.

Annie Savoy, the 8-5 morning line favorite, will break from post No. 2 under leading rider Ramsey Zimmerman.

The 6 ½-furlong sprint also attracted Barnett Stables' Sweet Idea, who twice lost by a head in Lone Star Park stakes last summer. Sweet Idea, the 2-1 second choice with Cliff Berry in the irons, will attempt to rebound from a fourth place finish in the Mission as the even-money favorite. The Bret Calhoun trainee vied for the early lead in the seven-furlong race then was taken off the pace. In upper stretch, the 4-year-old filly was bumped by a rival and came up empty while beaten by 2 ¼ lengths.

The complete field from the rail out (with jockeys and morning line odds): Best Expectations (Don Simington, 12-1); Annie Savoy (Zimmerman, 8-5); Sweet Idea (Cliff Berry, 2-1); Savione (Iram Diego, 15-1); Olmosta (Richard Eramia, 4-1); and Lucky El Nina (Glen Murphy, 5-1).

The JEH Stallion Station Stakes will be run as Race 10 at approximately 5:47 p.m. CT. Throughout the 11-race program, the foundation class of 14 for the new Lone Star Park Hall of Fame will be saluted between races. A pre-race ceremony to unveil each honoree's name with permanent enshrinement in the Lone Star Park Saddling Paddock will take place at 12:55 p.m.
