Wasted Tears Wins Grade III Quija Board For Third Straight Year at LSP

Grand Prairie, Texas (May 30, 2011) - Wasted Tears, bred, owned, and trained by Bart Evans, dominated six rivals in the 15th running of the Grade III, $200,000 Ouija Board over turf rated firm at Lone Star Park on Monday. The six-year-old mare, ridden by Julien Leparoux, recorded her third consecutive victory in the premiere turf event for fillies and mares at Lone Star Park.

Wasted Tears, who set a still-standing course record of 1:32.81 for the one-mile distance in winning the Quija Board in 2009, contested a swift early pace with Sheer Beauty through fractions of 22.77, 46.26, and 1:09.66. The bay daughter of Najran shook clear at the top of the stretch on her way to recording a five length win over a late running Category Seven, it was another 3 ¼-lengths back to Sheer Beauty in third. The final time for the one-mile journey was 1:34.06.

“I’ve never had one quite like her. She’s so intelligent and she has such a high cruising speed,” said winning trainer Bart Evans. “She’s kind of like an airplane, once she reaches cruising altitude she’ll tell you to take the seat belt off.”

With the win, Wasted Tears improved her record to 12 wins from 19 starts, including a perfect six-for-six over the Lone Star Park turf course, and with the $119,000 first-place prize, she increased her career earnings to $889,598.

Wasted Tears paid $2.80, $2.20, $2.10, runner-up Category Seven returned $4.00, $3.00, and Sheer Beauty paid $2.80 for show. The Cat Who, Slide On Bye, Cherry Pink and Bella Diamante completed the order of finish.
