Five-Time Local Champion Jockey Cliff Berry Reaches His 1,000th Lone Star Park Win

Grand Prairie, Texas (Saturday, June 6, 2015) - Jockey Cliff Berry, the all-time leading rider at Lone Star Park, rode his 1,000th winner at the Grand Prairie track today. Narrowly prevailing aboard Funtobefast in the tenth race, Berry became the first rider to reach the milestone. It will be many years until any other rider equals that number here. To put it in perspective, the closest active rider at Lone Star Park behind him is Quincy Hamilton with a total of 297 wins.

Berry rode his first winner here during Lone Star Park's inaugural Thoroughbred racing season aboard a horse named Ifihadawishforyou. That was on April 18, 1997. He has ridden a total of 5,326 races at Lone Star Park, earning over $17.8 million. He has been Champion Rider of the meet five times, in 2005-06, 2008, 2011 and 2012.

Nationally, Berry has ridden a career total of 28,520 horses, winning 4,489 total races. His mounts have earned over $65.5 million.

Congratulations to Cliff on his achievement!
