Zippit E Leads Full Field of 11 in the Sixth Edition of the Lane's End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes This Saturday at Lone Star Park

Grand Prairie, Texas (Thursday, June 22, 2017) - Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie will host the sixth running of the $50,000 Guaranteed Lane's End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes this Saturday, June 24. The Lane's End is for accredited Texas-bred fillies and mares, three-years-old and upward, going seven-and-one-half furlongs on the turf. It is the scheduled eighth race on the card of nine. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. First race post time is 5:00 p.m. Post time for the Lane's End is 8:35 p.m. (CDT).

Wayne Sanders & Larry Hirsch's Zippit E has been installed as the morning line favorite at 3-1 and will break from post two. The four-year-old daughter of My Golden Song has won her last five races. Her most recent victory was the $50,000 Wayne Hanks, Jr. Memorial Stakes here on April 23. Trainer Bret Calhoun has named jockey Richard Eramia to ride in place of Eddie Martin, Jr., who has opted to ride Gentle Secret in this for End Zone Athletics and trainer Karl Broberg.

Second choice in the morning line at 7-2 is Richard Chandler's Texas Belle. The Mindy Willis trainee has yet to win a race this year. The five-year-old mare by Angliana finished fifth in the Lane's End last year and followed that with an allowance win a month later. At this meet she placed in an allowance May 6 and followed that with a third place finish against optional claimers on May 29. Adrian Ramos has the mount for Saturday's Lane's End renewal.

Gentle Secret, a six-year-old mare by Gentlemen, has won two of six starts this year, an allowance at one mile on dirt at Delta Downs last January, and most recently against mid-level claimers at one mile on the turf on May 19. She placed in her last attempt, which was an allowance on the grass at 1 1/16 miles on May 29. She is the third morning line choice at 4-1.

The remainder of the field, with jockey and morning line odds is: Fancy Ticket (Danny Sorenson, 20-1); Gold Shock (Ivan Arellano, 12-1); Special Rockstar (Iram Diego, 12-1); My Master Plan (Luis Quinonez, 9-2); Jolie Mon (Lindey Wade, 15-1); Beta Baby (Eguard Tejera, 20-1); Soul Affair (Carlos Marquez, 15-1); and Celebrity's Gift (Gerber Pivaral, 20-1).

Friday, June 23 marks day 31 of 50 for the meet, and Iram Diego remains in front of the jockey standings with 48 wins. There is a two-way tie in second between Richard Eramia and Sasha Risenhoover, who each have 35 wins. All-time leading trainer Steve Asmussen has a comfortable lead with 51 wins compared to Broberg, who has 39. Asmussen also is atop the owner standing with 23 wins. Keene Thoroughbreds is in second with 16.

Noteworthy

Lone Star Park officials have announced an earlier gate opening on Sundays for the remainder of the season. The Grandstand Gates will now open at 1:00 p.m. each Sunday instead of 1:30 p.m. Post time will remain at 2:35 p.m.
