Supermason Takes $50,000 Assault, Brave Daisey Upsets $50,00 Valor Farm Stakes on Sunday at Lone Star Park

Grand Prairie, Texas (Sunday, July 15, 2018) - Brad Grady's superfast Supermason (Grasshopper) wired the field in the 21st edition of the Assault Stakes on Stars of Texas Day at Lone Star Park.

Regular rider Lindey Wade, who was aboard again today, said "I couldn't get him pulled up until the half-mile pole today. That shows you how good he was."

He was good indeed. Supermason set early fractions of :24.18, :47.70 and 1:12.01. He was asked in upper stretch, responding well and drawing off to be much the best. Final time for the mile race was 1:37.51 over a fast main track.

Rumpole raced just off the leader the entire distance, finishing second, and Galactica rated just off the pace, weakening but earning show. Gavin, F J Uncle Vic, and Special Praise completed the order.

Mutuels on the winner paid $2.80, $2.10 and $2.10. Rumpole returned $3.60 and $2.10, while Galactica paid $2.10.

Supermason added another $30,000 for the effort for a total career bankroll of $408,125.

The six-year-old bay gelding has a perfect three-for-three record this meet. Supermason particularly likes racing at Lone Star Park. Today's win put him at 10 of 16 career wins at the Grand Prairie track.

Brave Daisey Upsets Valor Farm Stakes

With Sasha Risenhoover aboard, Brave Daisey (Hidden Blessing), owned by Peter Varga, was the unexpected winner of the 21st running of the $50,000 Valor Farm Stakes today at Lone Star Park.

In the early going, the three-year-old dark brown filly was well placed, just off the pace. She was moved out for room turning into the stretch and drew clear after making a bid near the furlong marker. She put herself four-and-a-half lengths in front at the finish. Final time for the six furlongs was 1:10.82 on a fast main track. Fractions were :22.20, :45.29 and :58.00.

"She ran good and set up good," Said jockey Sasha Risenhoover. "I wanted to be close because there's been no coming back today. It worked out perfect."

Valid Bride was barley up to get the place over the favorite Flight Queen, who had to settle for show.

Bettors were rewarded with $33.80, $15.80 and $9.60 for the winner. Valid Bride returned $15.40 and $8.40 for the place, and Flight Queen returned $3.20. Prada's Bling, Dark Desert Wine, Ceremony, Zippit E, April Sugar and Kat's Infatuation completed the finish order.

This was Brave Daisey's second win at Lone Star Park from as many starts and her third overall from nine career starts. Her career earnings now total $75,710.
