Janae Holds Off Fast Closing Rivals for the Victory in the $97,525 Texas Thoroughbred Futurity Filly Division at Lone Star Park

Grand Prairie, Texas (Saturday, July 22, 2017) - Susan Moulton's Janae gets the trophy in the $97,525 filly division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity Saturday at Lone Star Park. Ridden by Kerwin Clark, Janae took the lead just outside the three-sixteenths pole, vied two, then three wide on the turn, kicked clear in upper stretch, and held under strong urging. It was a neck back to fast closing Ms Classic West and a head to back to favorite Patrona Margartia finishing third. Final time for the five furlong futurity was :59.08.

Trained by Brandon Jenkins, Janae is a two-year-old Louisiana-bred daughter of Closing Argument out of Debs Pet by Petionville. With the victory, Janae improved her record to 4-2-1-1 with earnings of $77,213.

Janae, the third wagering choice returned $14.40, $8.00 and $4.00. Second choice in the wagering Ms Classic West, ridden by Richard Eramia, returned $5.20 and $3.20 for place, and favorite Patrona Margarita, a half-sister to Texas Chrome ridden by Brian Hernandez, Jr., was third and returned $2.60. Donna's True Bling finished fourth out of the field of 10.

Kerwin Clark (Winning jockey, Janae)

"I spoke to Brandon earlier in the week, and he told me this filly was very fast even out of the starting gate. I didn't think she was that quick. I thought we might have a couple in front of us, but she broke well and was just tugging me around there. I'm just glad it was five-eighths and not five-eighths and a jump."

Brandon Jenkins (Winning trainer, Janae)

"We had a plan for this filly, and she's done everything we asked her. I want to thank Mrs. Susan. She believed in me and gave me these horses, and I really appreciate it. Sky's the limit.'

Susan Moulton (Winning Owner, Janae)

"The coolest part is all of us used to gallop at Retama. That's why we brought Kerwin in, and Brandon was amazing. He gets on all our horses. I've been out of this for a while, but I missed it, and this was a great way to come back. I've been pinhooking for a long time. The pinhooking used to support the racing, so maybe the racing will support the pinhooking now."

Richard Eramia (jockey, Ms Classic West 2nd)

"She ran a big race - couldn't hold on, but tried hard."
