| Ten Talented 3-Year-Olds Entered
in the $45,000 Texas Heritage Stakes on March 3 at Sam Houston Race
            Park (February 28, 2007) - A field of ten 3-year-olds
are entered in Saturday night’s feature race at Sam Houston
Race Park, the $45,000 Texas Heritage Stakes.
Stonerside Stable’s Speedway has been installed as the 3-1
morning-line favorite. Trained by Bernie Flint, the son of Forest
Wildcat broke his maiden last June at Churchill Downs and won the
$85,000 Mountaineer Juvenile at Mountaineer Park on August 6. His
most recent effort was a sixth-place finish in the $50,000 Dixieland
Stakes at Oaklawn Park on January 19. Sam Houston Race Park leading
rider, Larry Taylor has the mount.
Speedway will have to face two horses with proven track records
at Sam Houston Race Park. Daddy Warbucks, trained by Danny Pish,
won the $50,000 Groovy Stakes on Texas Champions Day and ran second
in the $125,000 Jim’s Orbit on February 17.
“The horse is doing well and we wanted to give him a shot,”
said Pish. “We were inside battling it out in the last race
and Banquo had a better trip. Daddy Warbucks gets better with each
              race we run him.”
Trainer Steve Asmussen has entered two colts in the Texas Heritage
Stakes: Beta Capo, who ran seventh in the Grade 3 Risen Star Stakes
at Fair Grounds and Banquo, winner of the $125,000 Jim’s Orbit.
“Banquo deserves a chance based on his performance in the
Texas Stallion stakes,” commented Asmussen. “Beta Capo
is a nice horse who has been running in tough company. We want to
give him an opportunity to get back to his winning ways.”
Another horse that ran in the Grade 3 Risen Star on February 10,
Makeithapencaptain will ship in for Saturday night’s feature.
Makeithapencaptain is trained by Bret Calhoun and was clipped from
behind, resulting in a tenth-place finish. Ramsey Zimmerman will
come in from Louisiana to ride the son of Aptitude.
The complete field for the Texas Heritage Stakes from the rail
is: Daddy Warbucks, Quincy Hamilton; Daddy’s Mistress, Jeffery
Burningham; Hadacure, Roimes Chirinos; Makeithapencaptain, Ramsey
              Zimmerman; I Spy Wolfie, Alex Birzer; El Kabong, Bobby Walker, Jr.;
Beta Capo, Donnie Meche; Speedway, Larry Taylor; Banquo, Jose Figueroa
              and Dream America, Richard Eramia.
Post time for Saturday’s card at Sam Houston Race Park is
7:00 p.m. with the Texas Heritage Stakes carded as the eighth race
of the program. Kip Deville captured last year’s Texas Heritage
Stakes and went on to compete in graded stakes company, including
a second-place finish in the $1,000,000 Colonial Turf Cup at Colonial
              Downs.
